Boyko Dossev studied at the National Ballet School in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he was a student of Bisser Deyanov. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Ballet Pedagogy and a Master’s Degree in Choreography from the National Conservatory “Professor Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia. In 2016, Dossev earned a Master’s Degree in Corporate and Organizational Communication from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Throughout his career, he has trained with esteemed instructors, including Irina Jacobson, Irina Kolpakova, Vladilen Semenov, and Lloyd Riggins. Dossev has performed with several notable dance companies, including the Jeune Ballet de France in Paris, Hamburg Ballet under the direction of John Neumeier, Dresden State Ballet (Semperoper Dresden), and the Boston Ballet. He received gold medals at the National Competition “Anastas Petrov” in 1997 and the Varna International Ballet Competition in 2002. Additionally, he has participated in numerous gala performances, such as “The Mega Gala Meeting of the Generations” at the Varna International Ballet Competition.
His repertoire includes works by prominent choreographers such as John Cranko, John Neumeier, Jiří Kylián, August Bournonville, George Balanchine, and Oleg Vinogradov, among many others. Boyko is also an accomplished choreographer, having created works for Semperoper Dresden, Hamburg Ballet, Festival Ballet Providence, Boston Ballet, Boston Ballet II, Boston Ballet School, Ballet Arkansas, Harvard University Ballet Company, and Emerson Dance Company.
As an educator, Boyko has taught at Boston Ballet School, the University of Maryland, Wellesley College, The Dance Complex in Cambridge, American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.), Harvard University, Festival Ballet Providence, Ballet Arkansas, and JMS in Toulouse, France. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Oklahoma School of Dance. Dossev previously served as the Director of the Oklahoma Festival Ballet and is an American Ballet Theatre-certified teacher for all levels of the ABT National Training Curriculum.
At the University of Oklahoma, Dossev has directed the Oklahoma Festival Ballet, led the Summer Intensive program, and currently coordinates the Young Choreographers Showcase. He is also part of the inaugural cohort of teachers pursuing certification in the Ailey-Horton Technique through the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
